In Proverbs 18:20-21 the Bible says, “from the fruit of a man’s mouth his stomach is satisfied; he is satisfied by the yield of his lips. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.” That analogy is saying that were are nourished by the words we speak. A flow of negative, degrading speech toward ourselves or others may be likened to eating fruit that is full of maggots. We can choose to eat that and feed it to others.
