The feeling of loneliness is one we have probably all felt at some point. Previously, it may have just been in passing or an inconsistent nag that would pop up at times. Now more than ever, a simultaneous feeling of isolation has found its way into many of our hearts. Those who may not have struggled with it in the past may be getting their first glimpse of persistent loneliness. Those with long time struggles may feel they are spiraling into a deeper, more permanent encounter. It has, as long as I can remember, been a great struggle in my life. I can be around others and still feel disconnected. I can be with friends, laughing, and having a great time, then moments later feel loneliness creep in and overwhelm those feelings of happiness. So when social distancing restrictions went into play, I determined that I would keep busy and wouldn’t let loneliness win. For the first few days, I replaced normal distractions with new ones. I diligently worked to make sure there was no space for loneliness. In many ways, it meant eliminating time to sit and reflect in God’s word. That is never a recipe for success.
God in His gentle way corrected me and has begun speaking to me a lot about loneliness. My study is still in progress, and I hope to write more extensively about it in the future. I did, however, want to provide a couple of devotionals and prayers for those who are facing feelings of loneliness right now. Over the next 7 days, I will post daily devos to help target loneliness. Join me as I prayerfully get to know the permanence and sufficiency of God in a greater way.
God is omnipotent
Loneliness has no power.
Proverbs 3:25-26 Do not be afraid of sudden terror or of the ruin of the wicked, when it comes, for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught.
God is omnipresent
He was meant to fill the space loneliness has inhabited.
Psalm 139:7-10 Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.
God is omniscient
He knows everything and has made a way for an abundant life.
Jeremiah 29:11-13 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.
